On Wednesday 13th December, New College Doncaster played the first Doncaster colleges derby match against Doncaster College. In wet and windy conditions the standard of football was very high from both teams and New College opened up a two goal lead. Unfortunately they let this slip with Doncaster College scoring two quick goals 5 minutes before half time. However, the boys of NCD rallied and, having wasted many scoring opportunities in their previous two games, were much more clinical and went goal-scoring crazy in the second half, running out deserved winners 6-3. A huge well done to all the boys for an outstanding team performance.
NCD goal scorers: Matty Harris 3, Jack O’Connor 2 and a sneaky Dale Mariano trying to claim 1.
New College Doncaster opened in Auckley in September and offers A-Levels and Level 3 BTEC qualifications.
They have joined the Sheffield and Hallamshire College’s league and have got off to a fantastic start both in the classroom and on the football pitch.
Jame Morris, Curriculum Leader for Business, Sport and Applied Courses said: “The performance was testament to how quickly and well the players have come together as a team. We are just one year group and are consistently playing against colleges and sixth forms with players who are 18, 19 and 20 years old so the standard that they are playing is really impressive considering we only came together in September”.
