New College Doncaster is proud to have achieved an outstanding first set of external exam results this summer for BTEC qualifications, GCSE resit and A-Level Maths.
BTEC qualifications, which make up around 30% of the college’s provision, performed at an outstanding level. 8 of 12 BTEC courses this year performed in the top 10% of all schools and colleges in the country, with students making remarkable progress. The proportion of students achieving a high grade (including distinction and above) was 87%, with a 100% pass rate. These figures exceed national averages by a very large margin.
Students resitting GCSE maths and English, aiming to secure a level 4 or above, also performed outstandingly. In English, 73% of students succeeded in achieving a level 4 or above. 77% succeeded in improving their result from school, with 40% of students improving their results by 2 or more grades. The progress of students resitting GCSE maths was also very strong and significantly above the national average, with 41% of students succeeding in achieving a level 4 or above and 55% securing an improved results result from school.
The college’s main set of A level results will be in summer 2019, with A levels now being usually completed over 2 years. A small cohort of 10 students this year completed A level mathematics in 1 year, achieving between them 6 A* grades and 4 grade A results. The progress these students made in relation to their GCSE results on entry places them in line with the very highest performing
schools in the country, with a value-added Alps grade 1.
The College Principal, Brendon Fletcher, added “It is wonderful to see the fantastic achievements of our students in our first year. They have achieved a phenomenal set of results year and we will be excited to see further A level results in summer 2019. We opened the college last September offering a wide curriculum, a different type of post-16 experience, and post-16 specialist teachers – I am delighted that students have placed their trust in us and that we are together delivering results of which they can feel really proud.”
New College’s Doncaster’s sister college, New College Pontefract, similarly achieved outstanding results, with BTEC results also in the top 10% nationally and A level results in the top 25% nationally.
Well done to all students and staff!
