Subject Specific Requirements

Minimum Entry Requirements

Please note that from 2017 GCSE subjects move to a new grading system which uses levels 9 to 1. From September 2018 we expect that students will present GCSE results using both the 9 to 1 system and the A* to G system of grading. We consider 4 or higher in the new system of grading to be equivalent to C or higher in the old system of grading.

PATHWAY 1 – 4 A levels

For students enrolling on a programme of four A level courses all of the following are required:

1)  achieved at level 4 in GCSE English Language (or grade C)
2)  achieved at least 7 GCSE results at level 4 or higher
3)  achieved an average GCSE point score of at least 6.5 in the GCSE subjects completed, but above 7.0 is recommended
4)  met the course specific entry requirements, and minimum average GCSE point score set out below, for each of their courses;
5)  Under 19 and eligible for full funding under EFA regulations for the full duration of the programme of study – please contact enquiries@ncdoncaster.ac.uk if unsure

PATHWAY 2 – 3 A levels (2 or more are challenging / facilitating subjects)

For students enrolling on a programme of three A level courses of which two or more are challenging / facilitating subjects (asterisked) all of the following are required:

1)  achieved at level 4 in GCSE English Language (or grade C)
2)  achieved at least 6 GCSE results at level 4 or higher
3)  achieved an average GCSE point score of at least 5.5 in the GCSE subjects completed, but above 6.0 is recommended
4)  met the course specific entry requirements, and minimum average GCSE point score set out below, for each of their courses;

PATHWAY 3 – 3 A levels

For students enrolling on a programme of three A level courses all of the following are required:

1)  achieved at level 4 in GCSE English (or grade C)
2)  achieved at least 5 GCSE results at level 4 or higher
3)  achieved an average GCSE point score of at least 4.0 in the GCSE subjects completed, but 4.8 or above is recommended
4)  met the course specific entry requirements, and minimum average GCSE point score set out below, for each of their courses;

PATHWAY 4 – Mixed Programme

For students enrolling on a programme of three subjects which combines A levels and BTECs

1)  achieved at level 4 in GCSE English Language (or grade C)
2)  achieved at least 5 GCSE results at level 4 or higher
3)  achieved an average GCSE point score of at least 4.0 in the GCSE subjects completed
4)  met the course specific entry requirements, and minimum average GCSE point score set out below, for each of their courses;

PATHWAY 5 – 3 BTEC qualifications

For students enrolling on a programme of three subjects which are all BTECs

1)  Achieved at least level 3 in both GCSE English Language and GCSE English Literature and a level 4 in one of the two
2)  Achieved at least 5 results in total which are GCSE or accepted GCSE equivalents to at least level 4 (or considered equivalent to a 4), and at least three of these results should be GCSE qualifications
3)  Achieved a GCSE point score of at least 3.5 in the GCSE subjects completed
4)  Under 19 and eligible for full funding under EFA regulations for the full duration of the programme of study – please contact enquiries@ncdoncaster.ac.uk if unsure
5)  Met the additional course specific entry requirements as set out below:

BTEC Extended Certificate in Applied Science

  • At least one level 4 in a GCSE science subject
  • At least level 4 in GCSE mathematics

 

BTEC Extended Diploma and BTEC Extended Certificate in Health and Social Care

• At least one level 4 in a science subject

BTEC Extended Diploma and BTEC Extended Certificate in Sport

• At least one level 4 in a science subject, level 4 in PE (if studied)

BTEC Extended Certificate in Business

• GCSE mathematics at level 4 or better

BTEC Extended Certificate in Music

• Level 4 (or merit) in Music (if studied)

A student will not be permitted to enrol onto a programme of study if they have failed to achieve level 4 in both GCSE English Language and Maths.
