The English team at New College Doncaster have been shortlisted for a TES award for the department’s GCSE results. The “Outstanding GCSE resits provision” shortlisting reflects the success that the department have had steering English resit students successfully through the course.
New College Principal, Brendon Fletcher, said: “I am incredibly proud of staff and students who have achieved phenomenal GCSE English resit results every year since the college opened in 2017. On average, our GCSE resit English students improve by at least 1 grade, with many improving by 2 or 3 grades within a year, which is a fantastic achievement. These results make a huge difference to the opportunities and life chances of our students.”
Achieving a pass at GCSE in English and Maths is often essential for successful progression to HE or employment, so ensuring that all students have passed GCSE English is a vital part of the college’s role as a high-quality post-16 provider.
TES head of FE, Julia Belgutay said: “Further education providers have excelled in what has been a truly challenging year, and the amazing individuals, teams and institutions on our TES FE Awards shortlist showcase that. Our judges were highly impressed with the calibre of entries and I want to congratulate everyone who has made the shortlist – it is a brilliant achievement”
Winners for this award will be announced at an online ceremony on Friday 28 May 2021.
