What are lessons like in this subject?

BTEC Extended Certificate AAQ in Health and Social Care (Single) On this course, you will explore a wide range of topics within the health and social care sector, gaining a solid understanding of how services support individuals across the lifespan. You will complete two examined units alongside internally assessed coursework, giving you the opportunity to apply your knowledge to real-life scenarios and develop practical skills. You will also choose an optional unit to suit your interests.   Studied alongside A Levels such as Psychology, Biology or English, this qualification will support your academic and career progression. You will develop key skills including communication, critical thinking and an understanding of professional care practices.   Throughout the course, you will engage with realistic and sometimes sensitive topics that reflect the challenges faced in health and social care settings. This course is ideal if you are considering university study or a future career in health, social care or related professions. BTEC Diploma AAQ in Health and Social Care (Double) Lessons in Health and Social Care are engaging, discussion-based and focused on real-life application. You will take part in a range of activities including case studies, group work, and independent research to help you understand how theory applies to real care settings. You will explore current issues in health and social care, develop your communication skills, and build confidence in presenting ideas.   Teachers will guide you through key concepts while encouraging you to think critically about how care is delivered and improved. There is a strong emphasis on developing professional behaviours, empathy and problem-solving skills, all of which are essential for working in the sector. This course equips you with both the knowledge and practical understanding needed to progress into careers such as nursing, social work, childcare, or allied health professions, as well as higher education pathways.   

What will I study?

BTEC Extended Certificate AAQ in Health and Social Care (Single)

Unit 1 Human Lifespan and Development   Explores the factors influencing health and wellbeing, and the roles of health and social care professionals in providing effective, holistic care.   Unit 2 Human Biology and Health   Focuses on the structure and function of the body systems and how they work together to maintain health.   Unit 3 Principles of Health and Social Care Practice    Focuses on the key principles, values and skills required to meet individuals’ care and support needs.   Unit 5 Promoting Health Education   Explores the purpose of health education, the models and approaches used to promote public health and behaviour change.

BTEC Diploma AAQ in Health and Social Care (Double)

The course includes three exam units and five coursework units that will give you a broad understanding of health and social care. The units you will study include:  
  • Human Lifespan Development 
  • Explore how people grow and develop across their lives.
  • Working in Health and Social Care
  • Learn about different roles within the sector and the importance of values such as equality and safeguarding.
  • Meeting Individual Care and Support Needs
  • Understand how to assess and meet individual needs, while respecting their rights, preferences and dignity.
  • Promoting Public Health
  • Investigate key public health issues and explore how professionals promote wellbeing in communities.
